People think that the groom just turns up at the wedding, says his speech and that’s it.
But this is completely wrong. His role starts by buying the engagement ring. He should plan the budget and make sure everybody sticks to it.
He should liaise with his bride to be over the caterers, church, reception, the cars and photographer etc.
He has to choose his best man, and this should be someone who knows him very well.
Along with the best man he will have to organise the ushers.
The guest list is always a bone of contention but it has to be done. Traditionally he would talk it through with his parents and then present it to the bride’s mother but nowadays the couple sits down between themselves and decides who is coming to the wedding and evening reception.
On the day of the wedding he should arrive in plenty of time at the church or registry office. The photographer may want to take pictures of the groom with his best man and he will have to say hello to all the guests as they arrive at church.
He will probably have to pay the church fees before the ceremony so make a note of who has to be paid so you don’t forget.
